this morning from baltimore. former ravens owner art modell has died. he passed away early this morning after a brief hospital stay at johns hopkins. modell bought the cleveland browns in 1961 and moved the team to baltimore in 1996. that move made him a hero in charm city but it made him hated back in cleveland. maryland governor martin o'malley issued a statement that says in part, quote, art brought the game and spirit of football back to baltimore. he helped reinvigorate baltimoreans' sense of pride in their team and their city. art modell was 87 years old. >>> checking headlines now and beginning overseas, two american soldiers died in afghanistan yesterday when their army scout helicopter crashed in the eastern part of the nation. also the afghan defense ministry fired hundreds of afghan soldiers in an investigation into insider attacks against nato trainers following a rash of green on blue killings. afghanistan is reevaluating soldiers to stop the attacks. >>> hurricane isaac's aftermath is posing big problems for fishermen. some waterways are clogged with debris which has blocked the

and west. we're quiet right now. a couple sprinkles north of baltimore. a few showers in western maryland. this is associate wade weak cold front. so weak, it won't really make it through the area. behind this front, as it pushes south and ea a little later this afternoon, there is some slightly drier air. you may notice the humidity waning just a little bit later on today. a series of cold frontss. we will gradually improve things around here over the next couple of days. this is sort of the first hit it was later this afternoon. so things will get better around here, gradually dry out and eventually cool down as we get into the weekend. here is your futurecast. put it in motion for you. you can see the cold front come through during the morning hours. here we are at 9:00 a.m. with a few showers around. be ready for a couple of showers particularly the first half of the day. later this afternoon, we could fire up a thunderstorm. north and west, i think you'll get enough of that drier air that you should generally be on the dry side later today. 87 today. palestinian leader yasser arafat

sweet weekend for baltimore ravens wide receiver torrey smith. he turned in one of his best games as a pro but did that with a heavy heart. smith's younger brother died saturday night while riding his motorcycle in northern virginia. smith, a former terrapin receiver, decided to play in last night's game against the patriots. he scored two touchdowns in a ravens win. afterwards, smith talked about playing with that weight on his shoulders. >> you play with a heavy heart. you want to play for that person. i know my mom and all my family and everyone was back at the house. i texted my mom when i got here to the stadium. that's when i really made the decision i was going to play. she was excited about it. she was like, of course he'd want you to play. >> ravens had a moment of silence before the game for jones. police are still investigating the crash, but they say alcohol was not a factor. >>> the police and fbi agents who caught the former marine responsible for firing at several military buildings will be honored today. yonathan melaku pled guilty to shooting at the pentagon, quan
